Fawn sighting

At 7:30am this morning on my way to work-on the dirt road just before I reached the blacktop, I saw something cross the road. It was about 50 yards away but I could tell it was small and dark colored. It crossed and went into the tall grass on the side. I drove slow and looked in the grass and there it was....a fawn. Very small. No bigger than Sara was. It still had spots! It was crouched down but looking at me. I wondered where Momma was. I took a picture with my cell and will try and download later. It looked very scared so I just looked for a moment then drove on. With it's size and color, I don't think it was over a few days old. What a wonderful way to start my day. One the perks of country living!

weekend.

Friday night Brad and family came for a visit. They had to drive through some pretty nasty storms to get here but they made it fine. It was wonderful to get my hands on those babies. Karissa is walking everywhere. Conner wants outside all the time but he runs too fast for me. Maybe we need a fence around the yard. It was hot but we played in the pool Saturday and then that night we played on the Wii. Bowling!! Lots of fun. Brad had the highest score but we all did good. Sunday, Ashleigh and I put up 40 jars of pickles. Brad helped John with some stuff. All in all we had a wonderful visit.

It has been awhile but so much has been going on. School is now out and as I look back I have so much to share. John finished the house! It is beautiful and there is a guest room just waiting! Country life is slower but more physical. No traffic. No sirens. No lines to wait in. No road rage. On the other hand: there are chores, repairs and much lower pay checks! Weighing everything....WE LOVE IT!!

Ok to catch up. The cows should be giving birth between now and September. We have 8 baby chicks that should be laying eggs by October. The garden is doing great (we are canning pickles this weekend). John spread gravel from the gate to the house!! Yippee no more slippin' and slidin' after rain. I will add pictures of the house and new chicken coop soon. But I will leave you with a rose from my new rose bush and a story a wrote a while back.

I am not a writer, but I wanted to share with you what I saw this morning.
As I was getting dressed I would look out the window to the pond as I do every morning and just welcome the day break. This morning was a little more eventful. There were 2 turkey hens about 10ft from the window just pecking at the ground. Further away at the dam end of the pond were 2 big tom turkey as fanned out and trying to impress the girls. Then on the far side of the pond was a lone hen. From a totally different direction came a 3rd tom, headed right for the lone hen. I thought, poor girl she is about to get attacked by these 3 guys. Wrong...the 2 dam toms (no pun intended) headed straight for the 3rd tom. With the lone hen right there, the toms got into a big fight! I had never seen such a thing. The 2 dam toms chased the 3rd one off and I mean at hard run. Apparently territory is important to these men. They returned once again all fanned out and ready to woo the girls. I had to get going so I got in the car and headed to school. At the end of FM1476 is a cemetery. There were 2 men digging a grave and a 3rd standing along side. His hands were behind his back, holding his cowboy hat while his head was bowed. I can only imagine what was in his heart. As I turned toward town, in the field to my left pretty close to the fence, was a cow and a very new calf.
So this morning was a reminder why I wanted to be here. It is a wonder to behold God's beauty and simple pleasures. Birth - life and love- death and the promise of another day to make things better.
