Opening the new door

A little update. I want to start a new blog with travel as the primary force. Also share my healthier  way of life.
It may take me a while but I really miss blogging. I enjoy keeping up with my favorite blogs and the friends they have brought. So stay tuned.

P.S. Any ideas on the new blog's name?

It's Time

As you know the name of my blog is "Life off a dirt road".
Since my move to town it seems that chapter has come to an end, and so must my posts to the blog. I toyed with the idea of changing the blog name but it just didn't feel right. I love to journal and will continue in a different manner for my family. I will also continue to follow the blogs of my dear friends. I love to read and find new craft ideas and appreciate those of you who supply that. Not to mention keeping up with the dear families I have come to love. So this is not goodbye, rather....see you later.
When one door closes-another opens. I am looking forward to the new doors that God has in store for me. Who knows.....there could be a new blog in the future.

God Bless you all,
Brenda

Full of Family

In the midst my relocation-my daughter/son-in-love also made some changes too. They relocated to a home only 3.9 miles from my new home! Before they move in, some major renovations must be completed. Since their old place was leased...did you guess it? They moved in with me!
The weekend before Christmas, Michele said Merry Christmas...you're getting me for Christmas! I had only been in my new house for about a month and everything seemed very out of sorts. I welcomed the thought of my daughter and her little family staying with me. In the last 3 years I have learned that "Change" is the one thing that is certain to happen. I am learning to roll with it. Having been alone on the ranch for a while I am very pleased to have the laughter and extra footsteps in my home.

I am finding joy is cooking again. My eating habits have changed a bit, but the kids seem to love whatever I put on the table. Since I am working only one day a week at the university-I almost feel like a housewife again. I keep Amy, cook, clean, laundry.....and I love it. It actually makes me feel good to be tired at the end of the day. However, I understand why God made us to bear children when we are younger! Even though I will miss them terribly when they move-I will welcome the next chapter to begin. It is really amazing if you think about it. God knows what is around the corner-sometimes good sometimes bad-if you leave it to him he will guide you. I guess what I am trying to say is-even if there are bad things-hold on to Jesus and give it time....things will change. Be thankful for all you have and praise the Lord every day. There is always much to be thankful for.

Happy Birthday to ME!!

February 1, 1958. Yep that makes me 56!! Really?
I was born in Fort Worth Texas and have lived my entire life (so far) within a 100 mile radius.
This is the first birthday in my new home and new memories are being made.
It began with a wake up call from my son, Brad. The best son in the world. He loves to be the first to wish me a happy birthday-and so he did. Later I heard something in the kitchen and when I went in, there was the best daughter in the world-cooking me breakfast. She even served it the "good china". Her plans were to serve in bed, but I spoiled it. As we ate, she said I had to get ready cause I was getting a massage at 10am!

After that was a manicure and pedicure then lunch. She drove me around and treated me like a princess all day. It was perfect. I am truly blessed and thank God every day for it.

Changes, Changes, Changes

Wow, has it really been 4 months! Time seems to be going by so fast. I have so much to share.
First let me begin with the very biggest change! I have moved to town...and am very happy.

Going from 80 acres 28 miles from town, to a house in a neighborhood in the middle of town, is quite a change. But I love it. Honestly, it has been a very smooth adjustment. I moved in November and haven't looked back.
No more dirt road...in the dark...in the rain...on a cold night. No more coyotes howling like they were about to come through the door. No more snakes and worrying about the animals. No more hauling the trash to the dump.
On the flip side of that-no more waking to the view of the pond from my living room window and seeing wild turkey cross the pasture. No more sunset with the sound of bob whites. No more STARS so bright they lit up the night.
I had to the leave the good as well as the "not so good".
However, I still have 2 acres of the ranch. It gives me such a sense of peace to know I am still connected.

There are good things I go in the exchange.
Now my trash is picked up at my curb! I still wake to birds singing outside my window. The neighborhood is surprising quiet. Very quiet. The grocery store is 1.8 miles from my driveway. My car stays cleaner and I haven't had not even 1 flat tire since being in town. A tank of gas lasts almost 3 weeks! I have neighbors that wave. There is a small park on my corner and an elementary school on the other. I still have LOTS of trees in my yard and room for my garden. I even have a clothes line.

Yogi and Sadie came with me. The other animals stayed at the ranch with the new owners. I was worried about Yogi adjusting but she is doing amazingly well. She had found a new joy....chasing squirrels. I really think she will catch one sooner or later. We often walk to the park and she has done very well. I had begun walking her on a leash well before we moved which helped. She has no problem with cars and other people...even other walking dogs. I honestly think she understands the changes and is doing her part to adjust. Sadie....well as long as her bed is nearby...she is fine!

My children, grandchildren and myself have already begun making new memories. Thanksgiving was spent eating our usual favorites on the same dinner plates we have eaten on forever. The view from the window was different but the faces at the table were all the same.

Christmas was a blessing too. Little Amy's first! All the others showed her how it is done! Laughing, eating, playing games and getting lots of kisses from Meemaw.

Another change is that I have lost 44 pounds. I started a high protein/low carb diet in early August and ended the diet in November. I will continue to have better eating habits and live a healthier life.
I plan to share the new diet tips and recipes. I feel much better-I am even planning to "walk" in a marathon in February.

I have missed blogging and keeping up with my blog friends. That is going to change. I am back. Back with changes though. There is a quote by C.S. Lewis that fits.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream."

I invite you to join me as I find that new dream and goal. Let's see what God has in store for this new chapter of my life. I never dreamed I would be starting over at 55 but here I go.

Friends Family & Faith

Fun times spent with a dear old friend. That is what I did this past weekend and it helped to clear my head and give me a breather. Not to mention, I enjoyed something I had never seen before....what at least at this level. I visited a Renaissance Festival with my lifelong friend and new friends she has brought into my life. What a fun time we shared. It was like being in Sherwood Forest for the day. An unexpected delight was the music. The weather was perfect and I am so grateful for such a wonderful time.

Today I spent the morning with my Michele and Amy. That always makes me smile and feel so good.

In the afternoon, I received information concerning the sale of the ranch and the purchase of my new home. It is good news. I really think this is all going to happen. And it all feels right. I have learned that what seems to be a failed prayer, is actually the answer to a prayer. It is so hard to understand God's plan till you get to the other side of it, but if you hold onto your faith-it will all come clear.
I don't want to say too much about all of that until I am actually through this transition. I think that should be the subject of my first post-hopefully from my new home.
Stay tuned. Closing may come soon and I will have much to share.
God is great!!!
