The still heat on a summer day
is cooled by sweat
as it rolls from my forehead down my face
.......or is it a tear.
This morning New Kitty lay on the porch with what appeared to be an injured right leg. John noticed blood. Water, food and a comfortable bed was made but as New Kitty tried to make it to the bed, he staggered and looked quite ill. Apparently it was worse than first suspected. A broken right leg for sure but was there more ? New Kitty and the kennel bed was brought in the house where it was cool, for him to rest and mend.
At 430P, John found that New Kitty had peacefully stopped breathing. We were both completely shocked and greatly saddened. What happened? What injury had cost its life? What caused the injuries? A predator? A trap? An accident? What What What
Why life ends is sometimes a mystery and sad,
no matter what the species.
New Kitty was just a cat, but we enjoyed the time he spent with us.
So this evening I dug a hole near Daisy and Sara
and laid New Kitty to rest.
It was hot.
The cows watched.
It was quiet.
And yes, I said a little prayer.
These are my feelings and I wanted to share.
As I write this post, it came time to do the evening count in the chicken coop. One red hen is missing. Will she return tomorrow? Does this have something to do with what happened to New Kitty? Life on the farm can be hard........
